History: According to an 1892 publication, Lake Lucerne is a natural spring-fed lake. The original lake was dammed by a natural ledge of rock, the water eventually eroded through the rock and dropped the lake level. The natural dam was repaired and built up to the point that the lake was 20' deep in some places.

Over the years, the lake has been named Crystal Lake, Spring Lake, and Sanitarium Lake. (Despite the fact that the sanitarium was never built there). It was the perfect resort property and was a prized location for picnics, boating and horseback riding. There are several references-including old post cards referring to it as Spring Lake up until the mid-twenties. At that time, the lake was sold to Richard Thompson, who also owned Ozarka Water company and had been president of Crescent College and Conservatory. Mr. Thompson eventually established it as “Lake Lucerne Resort”. He built cabins, pavilions for dancing and for dining, a hotel, a bath house, and a golf course. For years, it was one of the most exclusive resort properties in the area.

This cabin features the original interior and exterior features that made this resort picturesque at the time it was developed. It truly feels like you are stepping back in time to a gone-by era of luxury log cabins.

Note:  This cabin is on a gravel road which may not be suitable for motorcycles.  Additionally, there is only room for one vehicle.  If you have a trailer, or will be expecting guests, please notify us and request special accomodations.  (This house only sleeps 2).

Please Note: There is not access for fishing or swimming.

Additional information to align expectations: Lake Lucerne is a historic resort from the early 20th Century, which orignally included a golf course and an airstrip (now long gone). In the early days, the resort was a social center serving the vacationing elite. Over the years, much of the resort was divided up and sold. Today, Lake Lucerne is a historic snap-shot in time. There is no access for fishing, swimming, or boating at Lake Lucerne. The "lake" is a spring fed stream with a hand laid limestone dam. Some travelers have had expectations of a large reservoir and have commented that, in their opinion, it is more of a "pond". (We assume that the founders didn't like the sound of "Pond Lucerne", therefore, it has always been referred to as a Lake.) Over the years moss, and other aquatic plants, have grown in the shallow end of the "lake" , although, the deeper end near the dam has clear, open water. Please note that this is not a commercially groomed reservoir. Lake Lucerne is a natural Ozark stream with fish, plants, and moss. It is naturally beautiful, but it is not maintained like a "water feature" in a botanical garden. You will be staying on the South shore of the lake. Each of these 10 Cabins were a part of the original Lake Lucerne Resort. They are all individually owned. Each owner does their best to maintain the historic integrity of these small authentic log cabins. Be prepared for a narrow 1 lane road, although, it is easily navigable. We are in the Ozarks and the cabins are perched on a hill with sufficient room for a gravel road and a small driveway which will easily accommodate modern vehicles. There is sufficient space to safely drive to your cabin. The road includes a "turnaround" at the end, providing room for a 3 point turn. (We have NO space for trailers)
